Choosing the right garage door style for your home

There are so many different types of garage doors nowadays, from roller shutters to round the corner, glass, sectional doors, timber, up and over and side-hinged among many others, whilst access can be provided by a remote control too. The changes in the garage door industry over the last decade or so has certainly made it a lot more difficult to choose the right garage door for your home, but having more options is good news in our eyes.

With so many different types, operating systems and automation possibilities to consider, you’ll naturally start asking yourself more questions when you’re looking for a garage door, such as:

  • What size do I need?
  • What material would be best to protect my home?
  • Do I need electric operation?
  • Should I choose a traditional opening method or something more contemporary?
  • How should the design look?
  • Will it fit the style of my existing property?
  • Should I spend more to get the best possible quality?

  • What retailer is best to buy from?

If you really take your time and answer just a few of these questions, you can begin to narrow down your options rather quickly. The main questions you need to answer is the type of garage door. Will it be a like for like replacement or are you thinking of something a bit more modern and easy to operate? If you are, you really do have to consider an electric roller door. These are incredibly reliable, easy to use and you’ll be guaranteed high levels of security. One of the big advantages is that you’ll be able to arrive home after a long day’s work and not have to worry about exiting your vehicle until you’re completely safe in your own home. As soon as you pull up on your driveway, you can press a button on a fob to open the door, and then proceed to park your car inside. Once safely in the garage, simply press a button to lower and lock the garage door in place. It’s that easy.

This is the same story for electric sectional garage doors too, which are also a very popular alternative these days, so what’s the difference. Well rather than thin roller panels, sectional panels tend to be larger and they neatly fold up into position. One issue with these doors is that they do often require slightly more headroom, so if you don’t have the tallest garage ceiling they’re not always an ideal option. That said, if you have the right size garage for sectional doors, they’re very easy to maintain and operate, whilst they look incredibly stylish too and are available in a wised range of designs and finishes, such as wood effect or even colour matched to the front entrance door of your home.
