CarTeck Garage Doors: Sectional Doors for Hard to Reach Places

CarTeck garage doors is a division of Teckentrup, a German company that also produces steel and industrial doors. Their main factory is in Germany, and they opened their British base in Warrington, Cheshire in 2008.

They don’t offer a large selection of garage doors. CarTeck offers sectional doors and side-hinged doors, and also offers side doors that match their sectional and side-hinged doors. If you are interested in roller doors or up and over doors, you will have to look at other garage door manufacturers.

Their sectional doors are made up of several stiff foam insulated panels, and each panel is faced with steel. Because of the steel and stiff foam, these doors are very effective at keeping the garage cold or hot, depending on the temperature of the garage, and also very stiff.

Because the sectional doors can be made to any height, sectional doors made by CarTeck are very effective at sealing off oddly shaped and sized garage openings.

Headroom is worth a closer look at CarTeck. With a conventional sectional door, the rails and springs are located at the side of the door. With a garage with a low lintel, the springs and rails may not fit at all. CarTeck states that their sectional doors only require 120mm of headroom with wider doors requiring 140mm. Competitor sectional doors may require more headroom than this. Make sure to measure the distance from the top of the opening to the obstructing beam before getting a sectional door fitted.

With a sectional door, you can park right up to the door, as it swings up vertically. Because of this, it takes up less space than a conventional door. Sectional doors are fitted behind the opening, but may also be fitted between the opening with a different bracket and trim.

With children, sectional doors may seem like an easy door to adjust or replace, as the springs are located at the top. However, the doors contain a lot of force, so it is always best to have an engineer complete the work.

Finishes include smooth and a few types of woodgrain. The woodgrain includes a Georgian design. Panels are either center rib or plain. Beyond white, available colors include shades of gray and black. Some colors and finishes take a fairly long time to produce and ship, so ask about lead times if you need to know the exact arrival time.

The side-hinged doors are made from the same insulated panels as the sectional doors, and have aluminum surrounds on each panel. The hinges and the frame of the doors are aluminum, and are meant to reduce the problem of the doors sagging over time. Old sectional doors are known to do this, and can also affect side-hinged doors. Old doors can also stop catching on the floor and prevent the door from locking. A side-hinged door made from the same panel as the sectional door can be made to provide access from the garage to the outside. It can also be made to match the sectional door.

Larger widths of these doors can be purchased as the CarTeck XL or CarTeck SuperSize models to cover wider door openings.

Electric openers are standard with the majority of sectional doors, and CarTeck models are no exception. Automation kits are available for manual doors, but the door will need to be balanced before this can be done. An opener will put a lot of strain on worn springs, so a balance should always be maintained.

CarTeck sectional doors are well suited for garages that are attached to the house, as the insulated doors can help maintain a more pleasant temperature in the garage (as opposed to a standard sectional door). CarTeck doors can also be used in places where a standard sectional door can’t due to lack of headroom. However, CarTeck doors won’t be as appropriate if a more traditional timber door is desired, or if a sectional door isn’t used as an overhead garage door due to a lack of space.

Prior to purchasing, have the opening dimensions measured, and consult with an installer as to which CarTeck door they would install and why.
